The McGill Bird Observatory is project overseen by the Migration Research Foundation inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the study of bird movements and conservation. We are a small organisation with funding primarily obtained through fundraising event, corporate sponsorship, individual donation and grants. Money received helps supports our ongoing activities. Thank you for supporting our work. You’ll receive a tax receipt for your donation, helping you make an impact while also benefiting from a tax deduction.

Sponsor a Net

Mist nets are the most common capture method used in bird research projects, they are delicate nets 12m long and 2.5m high.

With this donation will be able to purchase the necessary equipment to collect crucial data for long-term bird conservation.

Montreal Birding Olympics

Put your birding skills to the test while raising funds for our organization with our competition! During one specific day in May each year, teams will try to observe the maximum bird species on the Island of Montreal while raising funds for our organisation.

Create a team and defend your honor and simply enjoy a beautiful day birding for a great cause.

Northern Saw-whet Owl Adoption

Help support McGill Bird Observatory’s research on Northern Saw-whet Owls by sponsoring one of the owls banded during fall migration !

Sponsor an owl for yourself, or as a gift for family or friends. The minimum cost of a sponsorship with a private night visit is $100 and will allow you to visit our site during the evening with a loved one to observe these charming owls up close.

Together, we inspire – Support MBO’s new education Program

In recent years, education has become an increasingly important objective for our organization. We currently offer group visits, demonstrations, booth and conferences aimed at adults.

Now we want to share our passion with kids by teaching them more about bird banding, migration and the conservation of these fabulous species. In particular, we want to develop an educational program that can be offered in school or on our site for our youth.

Adoptions

Help support our research on Northern Saw-whet Owls by sponsoring one of the owls banded during fall migration (September 26 to November 6) !

Minimum donation for sponsorship only : $50

Minimum donation for a sponsorship with a private night visit : $100

Included with each adoption is :

  • The possibility of releasing your owl if you are present that night *only if you take a private night visit
  • A donation tax receipt
  • A digital certificate, including a photo of your owl and many details.
  • The promise of being notified first if your owl is ever recovered elsewhere.

Montreal Birding Olympics

Join our annual fundraising event to support our migration monitoring program, educational program, and related research projects. For one day, each year in May on the Island of Montreal, all the teams of bird lovers humans compete to observe the most species in 24h !

No need to be a professional birder to participate, amateur, apprentice, kids, professional .. everybody is welcome to enjoy the birds on the Island that day.

Edition 2024 take place on May 11, from midnight to 11h59 p.m.

The majority of the teams’ members must be 18 years or older.
